Enlisted at Coalville, Leicestershire. Served with the 8th Battalion during World War One. Killed in action France and Flanders campaign 11.4.1917, aged 23. He is buried at St. Leger British Cemetery, France.

Further Info: Frederick was the first husband of Jane Smith formerly Snow Nee Collier Mackie. He was the father of an older half brother [see regt number 4856371] and two older half sisters. George Smith, Jane's second husband [See Regt number 1876] adopted the children and brought them up as his own. Frederick was a native of Woodhouse Eaves where he is commemorated.
