Biography :

Band drummer of the 1st Bn. Served with the Regiment from the 1880s, and possibly even earlier. Served throughout the Boer War and received the Queen's South Africa medal with six clasps. While a drummer, he abandoned his drum to the Boers in 1899, only for it to be returned to the Regimental Museum years later! He reached the rank of Cpl. His medals are in the collection of Leicester City Museums. He was later an In-Pensioner at The Royal Hospital Chelsea. Note that he was at the Depot as at 31.3.1901 (aged 34).
