Enlisted at Leicester. Served with the 9th Battalion during World War One. Killed in action France and Flanders campaign 14.4.1917, aged 28. He is buried at St. Leger British Cemetery, France. Private Routledge's British War Medal is in the of Leicester City Museums Service.
