17th Bn. Highland Infantry formerly (27502) Leicestershire Regiment. Died 13.2.1917, aged 18. He is commemorated on Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France.

Bertie was born in Ashby de la Zouch, Leicestershire, the elder of at least two children of Walter (a railway platelayer) and Emma Jane Roughton. After Walter's death Emma married George Hatton and lived at 97 Mayfield Road, Ashbourne, Derbyshire. He enlisted at Leicester as Private 27502, Leicestershire Regiment.

Private Bertie Alfred Roughton, 41252, 17th Battalion, Highland Light Infantry, died on 13th February 1917, aged 18, while in trenches at Ten Tree and Lager Alleys, near Puisieux. He is also commemorated on the war memorial in Ashby-de-la-Zouch.
