Biography :

Albert Pryce-Howells enlisted in The King's Shropshire Light Infantry in 1945. By 1947 was a Sergeant in 1st KSLI, and underwent Public Duties in London 1947-48. He was in 1st KSLI's Colour Party at the Coronation in 1953. He joined 5th Battalion The Royal Leicestershire Regiment (TA) in 1953. As a WO2 he was CSM C Coy in 1967 and CSM HQ Coy in 1959. From that rank he was commissioned 2nd Lt into The Royal Leicestershire Regiment (TA) on 28.2.1960, and served in the same Battalion, which became 4/5th Battalion in 1961. He was promoted Lt on 28.2.1962. In 1962 he led the Battalion's Nijmegen March team, which received a gold medal. As a Captain he was awarded the T.D. (TA) in 1969. He transferred to RAMC (V) in the rank of Lt (Non-Medical) on 1.1.1969 and served in 222nd (East Midlands) Field Ambulance RAMC (V) in Leicester, and was appointed Adjutant. He was promoted Capt (N.M.) on 1.12.1971. He was awarded the T.D. (TAVR) on 14.1.1975. Promoted Brevet Major (N.M.) on 15.10.1975, by which time he was the unit's Training Officer, largely instrumental in the unit winning the TAVR Medical Challenge Shield four times in five years. He was awarded the M.B.E. in 1979 (L.G. 31.12.1979). He retired from the Active TA in March 1984 and re-enlisted in February 1985 into 7th Bn The Royal Anglian Regiment (V) to raise - and become the first OC of - its E (Home Service Force) Coy. He finally retired from Army service in 1988, aged 60.
He died in 2017, aged 88 years.
