Biography :

Enlisted at Leicester 1.1.1896 and served with The Leicestershire Regiment in England, Ireland and South Africa (1898-1903). Re-enlisted 17.2.1908 and served until discharged at the termination of his period of service at Lichfield 16.2.1912. Awarded the Queen's and King's South African medals with Clasps for Cape Colony, Talana, Defence of Ladysmith, Laing's Nek, Belfast, South Africa 1901, South Africa 1902. Medals lost from Regimental TA display in the 1960s.

For WW1 he firstly served with the 21st Battalion Midland Rifle Brigade as Lance Corporal, P12815 Military Mounted Police, service in E. J. Egypt 1915-1919 and transferred to the Army Reserve 21 April 1919.
