Home address given as Nottingham. Enlisted in Nottingham. Served with the 110th Brigade (6th, 7th, 8th, 9th Battalions) during World War One. Was serving with 2nd Bn at the time of his death. According to Soldiers Died in The Great War Part 22 Leicestershire Regiment he died of wounds in Mesopotamia 23.2.1917, however, Commonwealth War Graves Commission has him listed as killed in action, aged 24. He is buried at Amara War Cemetery, Iraq.
