Eductated at Oakham School, Tony Pollard enlisted in The Royal Leicestershire Regiment as Pte 23163894 at Glen Parva Barracks in August 1955, then 2nd Lieutenant 446685 on National Service 25.2.1956. Platoon Commander in 1st R Leicesters in Cyprus; awarded Mention in Despatches (L.G. 7.2.1958). Regular Commission 6.12.1958. RSO 1st R Leicesters Hong Kong and Borneo 1963-64. Adjutant 4/5th R Leicesters (TA) 1964-1965. Adjutant 4th R Anglian, Malta, 1966-68. Student at Staff College Camberley 1968-69. DAA&QMG HQ 7 Armd Bde, Hohne, 1970-72. Coy Comd and Bn 2IC 1st R Anglian, Cyprus, Tidworth, Northern Ireland, 1973-74. DS at Staff College 1975-77. He is the son of Private William Pollard and nephew of Captain Frank Pollard and 2Lt Thomas Pollard of The Leicestershire Regiment, and the father of Major Julian Pollard and of Lieutenant Piers Pollard of The Royal Anglian Regiment. Another of his sons married the daughter of Major C P K Challen of The Royal Leicestershire Regiment.
