Biography :
Educated at Rugby School, from the rank of Cadet, Ian Oliver was commissioned 2Lt into the Royal Artillery on National Service on 1.5.1954. Promoted Acting Lieutenant on 18.9.1955. On completion of National Service he joined Q Battery 438th LAA Regt RA (TA), where he was the OIC Radar. On amalgamation he transferred to 4/5th Bn The Royal Leicestershire Regiment (TA) on 1.4.1961, becoming its Intelligence Officer, and from 1962 he was a Platoon Commander in A Company. He joined the TA Reserve of Officers on 5.6.1963.
He died in 2020, aged 85 years.
He was the son of Lt Col Claude Danolds Oliver, nephew of Maj Sir Frederick Ernest Oliver, and grandson of Colonel Sir Charles Frederick Oliver, all of the Regiment.
