Oliver, Frederick Ernest, Sir - CBE TD DL

Biography :
Educated at Rugby School, Frederick Oliver was commissioned into 4th Bn The Leicestershire Regiment in 1922. He made one appearance for Leicester FC's 1st XV in 1923. He was promoted Lieutenant on 20.12.1924, Captain on 9.10.1928 and Major on 29.5.1936. On 10.12.1936 with all in 4th Bn he transferred to 44th (The Leicestershire Regt.) Anti-Aircraft Bn RE (TA), and later into the RA (TA) in the Second World War, including 2 years in Burma. Awarded the T.D. in 1942. Retired from TA in 1945. He was appointed a Deputy Lieutenant for Leicestershire in 1950. Lord Mayor of Leicester 1950. Awarded the C.B.E. for political and public service in Leicester (L.G.1.1.1955). Knighted 1.1.1962 for political service in Leicester. In civilian life he worked for the family firm George Oliver (Footwear) Ltd, shoe retailers in Leicester, and with his younger brother (Claude Danolds Oliver OBE TD DL (1903-1987) of the Regiment), became joint managing director.
He died in 1994, aged 93 years.
He was the son of Colonel Sir Frederick Oliver TD DL JP of the Regiment.
