Oliver, Claude Danolds - OBE TD DL

Biography :
Educated at Rugby School, Claude Oliver was commissioned into 4th Bn The Leicestershire Regiment (TA) in 1922. Promoted Lieutenant 20.12.1924, Captain 4.5.1929, and Major 10.12.1936. On the transfer of 4th Bn into an RE and later a RA Regiment, he joined the RA (TA). In WW2 he was awarded O.B.E. for his work as CO, 122nd Anti-Tank Regt RA, Burma (L.G. 17.1.1946). Chairman of the Territorial & Auxiliary Forces Association for Leicestershire & Rutland 1957-67. Honorary Colonel of 4/5th Bn The Royal Leicestershire Regiment (TA) 1967-71 and Deputy Honorary Colonel 7th (Volunteer) Bn The Royal Anglian Regiment 1971-72. In civilian life he worked for the family firm George Oliver (Footwear) Ltd, shoe retailers in Leicester, and with his elder brother ([Sir] Frederick Ernest Oliver CBE TD DL (1900-1994) of the Regiment, became joint managing director.
He died in 1987, aged 83 years.
He was the son of Colonel Sir Frederick Oliver TD DL JP and father of Lieutenant I D Oliver, of the Regiment.
