Biography :

Thomas Needham served in 1/5th Bn in World War One, entering France as a LCpl on 28.2.1915. Awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal as a Sergeant (L.G. 25.8.1917: "For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty when in charge of his platoon. He charged a party of the enemy bayonetting five of them and enabling his platoon to obtain the objective by hs fine offensive spirit and determination"). Sergeant Needham was also gassed in 1917. He was discharged on 22.3.1919. His DCM is in the collection of Leicester City Museums Service.
