Biography :
Home address given as Cossington. Leonard Nayler joined the R.A.F. Volunteer Reserve in 1939. On medical advice transferred to the Army at the outbreak of war joining The Leicestershire Regiment as Corporal. He was promoted to Sergeant and applied for an officer's commission which he was granted on 10.1.1941 He served initially in 1/5th Bn Leicestershire Regiment ('C' Wing 148 pre-O.C.T.U. Training Establishment). In 1944-45 he served with the 1st Bn in France, the Netherlands and Germany. For his actions as a Company Commander in 7th Bn The Hampshire Regt at Berkhofel on 15-16.2.1945, he was awarded the Military Cross (L.G. 3.5.1945). After the war he started a business in Syston and also enlisted in the T.A. Promoted Captain (and Hon major) on 18.4.1950. Transferred to RASC in the rank of Captain on 13.3.1952. Promoted Major on 5.2.1957. Awarded the second clasp to the T.D. on 17.7.1964, in the rank of Lt Col. Lt Col in TA Reserve of Officers on 4.7.1966. He died in 2004.
