Biography :

Enlisted at Leicester. Served with the 9th Battalion during World War One and was awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal (L.G. 3.3.1917: "For conspicuous gallanry in action. He organised a number of men who had become detached from the rest, and led them forward to the third objective, therby protecting the left flank of the battalion on his right."). Killed in action in France on 13.5.1917, aged 30. His DCM is in the collection of Leicester City Museums Service. He is commemorated on Arras Pas-de-Calais, France.
