Biography :

Home address given as Willenhall, Staffordshire. Enlisted at Wolverhampton, Staffordshire 24.8.1914. Served with the 6th Battalion during World War One, entering France 29.7.1915. On 14.7.1916 he suffered a gun-shot wound to the neck and was treated at 34 Casualty Clearing Station then No.3 General Hospital and on 24.7.1916 he was taken to the UK aboard a hospital ship. It is assumed that he was sent to Etherley Hospital for further treatment or convalescence and sadly he died 17.9.1916, age 30. Private R. Mothershaw was awarded the 1914-15 Star, the British War and Victory Medals. He is buried at Etherley (St. Cuthbert) Durham.
