Biography :

Educated at Clifton College and RMC Sandhurst, John ('Jack') Mosse was commissioned into The 17th (Leicestershire) Regiment as 2nd Lieutenant 13.8.1879, and promoted Lieutenant 18.12.1880, serving in 2nd Bn in India. Promoted Captain 5.10.1886. Took part in the Burma campaign of 1888-89. He was awarded a pair of Earl Howe's Cups in 1888, silver goblets presented by Earl Howe, Colonel The Leicestershire Regiment.Appointed Adjutant of 3rd Bn 25.11.1892. Still serving in that capacity in 1896. Later saw home service in World War One. Aged 55 years, he died in 1916 whilst serving as Commanding Officer of the Regimental Depot, Glen Parva. He is buried at Leicester (Welford Road) Cemetery, Leicestershire. Father of Major J W E Mosse MC and grandfather of Lt Col R J McG Mosse of the Regiment.
