Biography :

Educated at Brighton College, Mike Moore was commissioned into The Leicestershire Regiment in 1934 and promoted on Lieutenant 14.11.1934. Served with the 5th Bn (TA) in the 1930s. In World War Two he served in 2/5th Bn as a Company Commander of D Coy in France and Belgium in 1940 where he was wounded and evacuated on a stretcher from Dunkirk. He then spent two years at the War Office before returning to 2/5th Bn as Adjutant in UK, Algeria and Tunisia. As a Major serving in Italy in 2/5th Bn he was awarded M.C. for his work as a Company Commander at Salerno, Italy, 10-14 Sep 1943 (L.G. 13.1.1944), when he was again wounded. From then until the end of the war he held staff appointments in the Central Mediterranean and in Northern Ireland. On the re-formation of the TA in 1947, he rejoined the 5th Bn (TA) as a Company Commander. Awarded the T.D. on 2.11.1948 and 1st Clasp on 15.2.1951. He commanded 5th Bn (TA) from 2.8.1952 till 1.8.1956, when he retired. Deputy Lieutenant of the County of Leicester from 2.5.1962. Deputy Honorary Colonel The Royal Anglian Regiment (Leicestershire) 1979-81. Chairman The Royal Tigers' Association 1974-84. In civilian life he worked for the family hosiery business Moore Eady, and retired as Chairman and Managing Director in 1982. He died in 1984, aged 67 years.
There is a brass memorial plaque to his memory in the Regimental Chapel in Leicester Cathedral.
His medals are on display in the Regimental Museum in Leicester.
