McIntyre, Arthur Seymour - MC

Biography :
Arthur McIntyre was served in 3rd (Militia) Bn The Leicestershire Regiment from July 1908, and joined the Depot in 1909. That year in November he played rugby for the Midlands vs. Middlesex. Between 1908 and 1912 he made 46 appearances for Leicester FC's First XV, scoring 3 tries. He was promoted Lt on 4.1.1912 when he joined the Special Reserve, serving in it until 5.4.1919. He served in 2nd Bn in the First World War, in France, Mesopotamia, Egypt, and Palestine. He was awarded the M.C. for actions as a Captain in Mesopotamia (L.G. (22.12.1916); he was Mentioned in Despatches for operations in Mesopotamia (L.G. 8.3.1918) and again for services in Egypt from 6.3.1918-18.9.1918. He was promoted Brevet Major on 7.2.1918. He relinquished his commission on 11.8.1920, yet served in 3rd (Special Reserve) Bn 13.4.1921-19.4.1921(!). After the war he was a professional cricketer, and lived in Bournemouth. A right-handed batsman, he made his first-class debut for Hampshire in the 1920 County Championship against Essex. He played cricket for Hampshire in 28 first-class matches between 1920 and 1923, with his final match against Middlesex. In his 28 matches for the club he scored 493 runs at a batting average of 11.46, with a single half century score of 55. He died in 1945, aged 55.
