Biography :

Home address given as Nottingham. Enlisted 23.4.1937. Gordon Mather served in 1st Bn The Leicestershire Regiment in India and later in Malaya. Killed in Action on Singapore Island on 12.2.1942, aged 19. He is commemorated on the Singapore Memorial, Singapore. He was the recipient of the India General Service (with clasp North West Frontier 1937-39). This object, along with his War Medal, Defence Medal, 1939-45 Star and Pacific Star from World War Two, are on display in the Regimental Museum.
