Biography :
Larry Martin was commissioned into The South Staffordshire Regiment in the 1930s. Awarded a Mention in Despatches for his work as a staff officer in Italy ((L.G. 24.8.1944) and again as Brigade Major, HQ 167th Inf Bde, Italy Sep-Dec 1943 (L.G. 11.1.1945). Commanded the 2/5th Bn The Leicestershire Regiment in Italy from 19.4.1944 to June 1944. Awarded the D.S.O. for his actions at Mondaino on the Gothic Line, Italy, 31 Aug 1944 (L.G. 8.2.1945). As a Colonel he was awarded US Legion of Merit (Legionnaire) for his work as AA&QMG, HQ British Commonwealth Forces, Korea, May-Sep 1951. Promoted Brigadier 26.6.1955. Retired 15.9.57
