Biography :
Harry Lindley enlisted in The Leicestershire Regiment on 11.10.1892. He served with the 1st Bn in the West Indies, in the Boer War, in India, Ireland and England. Awarded 1st Class Certificate of Education 28.3.1904. Posted to 1st Bn 'E' Company in 1908. Awarded the Long Service & Good Conduct Medal in 1911, in which year from CSgt he was appointed QMS (ORS) and in 1912 he was promoted QMS, and posted to 3rd Bn as RQMS. From the rank of Quartermaster Sergeant he was commissioned into the Regiment as Lieutenant Quartermaster on 25.8.1914, and served in 6th Bn in World War One, entering France on 29.7.1915. He died of wounds in 1916, aged 39. He is buried in a CWGC-sponsored grave at Leicester Welford Road Cemetery. His memoriam plaque, military documents, and personal papers are in the collection of Leicester City Museums Service.
