Lennard, Samuel Frederick

Biography :

Home address given as Shirley Road, Knighton, Leicester. Educated at Wyggeston Grammar School and at Leighton Park School (Reading), Samuel Lennard enlisted as a Private on 14.8.1914 and served with the 1/4th Bn The Leicestershire Regiment in World War One, entering France in Feb 1915. He returned to England for officer training, was commissioned 2Lt on 5.8.1915, and returned to the Bn in November. Near Souchez in France on 30.3.1916, aged 21, he was killed in action by a sniper bullet. He is buried at Ecoivres Military Cemetery, Mont St-Eloy, France.
