Biography :
Educated at Ashby Boys' Grammar School, Mike Kinson enlisted at Leicester on 5.10.1953 as Private 22970710 on National Service, soon converting to a Regular enlistment. He was a good cricketer and represented the Infantry and the Army at hockey. His service with The Royal Leicestershire Regiment was mainly in the Orderly Room in 1st Bn and at the Depot, including service in the UK, Germany, The Sudan and Cyprus. He was promoted Warrant Officer at the age of 27. In 1963 joined 1st Bn 1st East Anglian Regiment as ORQMS in Aden, later reaching the rank of WO1 (Superintending Clerk). After being commissioned on 20.8.1970, he later served in 1st Bn The Royal Anglian Regiment as Families Officer in Cyprus 1972-74, and subsequently served in Northern Ireland and as a Quartermaster with The Royal Regiment of Fusiliers (TA) in Coventry. Awarded O.B.E. for service as Staff Officer, Military Secretary’s Dept, Ministry of Defence, 1985-89 (L.G. 14.6.1990). Retired from the Army in 1993. Became a Councillor in Warwick in 2003, was Mayor of Warwick 2010/11 (see photo) and was elected Chairman of Warwick District Council in May 2012.
