Biography :
Enlisted 15.9.1939 into the Militia. Later served with the 1st Bn in Malayan campaign, and was taken Prisoner of War. He was released in 1945. Discharged under paragraph 390 (XVIII) Kings Regulations in 1946.
Further information: 1939 - 1940 drafted to Northern India in association with Lord Mountbatten's Defence of India Strategy. Stationed at the Amber Fort, Agra. Promoted Lance Corporal when appointed driver for the COs car. Sent to Malaya in 1941. Taken PoW at the fall of Singapore on the 15th February, 1942 after action at the Battle of Jitra and the withdrawel down the Malay Peninsular with the British Battalion (the remnants of the East Surreys and 1st Bn Leicestershire Regiment). Interred in Changi jail, Singapore. Transferred to Japanese labour camps along Malay/Thai/Burma Railway construction 1942 to 1945. Liberated by USA forces 1945 after Japan Surrender.
