Enlisted in The Leicestershire Regiment at Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire. Served with the 8th Bn in France and Flanders during World War One. Awarded the Military Medal (London Gazette 27.10.1916, p 10485). Killed in Action in France near Croisilles, near Arras, on 13.4.1917, aged 31. He is commemorated on the Arras Memorial, Pas-de-Calais, France.
