Enlisted Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire. Served with 2nd Bn during World War One. Joined the battalion in the field from 29th Reinforcements 7.10.1915. Wounded in action in Mesopotamia 13.1.1916. Died of beri beri, buried at sea 9.6.1916, aged He is commemorated on Basra Memorial, Iraq.

Reported in the Melton Times 30.6.1916:

He was wounded in Mesopotamia fighting the Turks and sent to Bombay hospital, recovered from his wounds and returned to his regiment but contracted beriberi on hospital ship where he died.

Worked at Holwell works for 10 years. Left wife, Hannah and two children, Frances and John Henry who were living at Asfordby Hill when he died.
