Phillips, Sydney Vernon

Biography :

Educated at Wycliffe School (Gloucestershire) 1901-04, Sydney Phillips was a surveyor, became a Fellow of the Surveyors' Institute, and worked for the Inland Revenue Board. In November 1915 he enlisted in The Artists' Rifles OTC, and was commissioned into The Leicestershire Regiment on 26.5.1916. He served with 'B' Company 7th Battalion, which he joined in France in July 1916. He was Killed in Action by the explosion of a German mine, near Agnez les Duisans near Arras on 14.8.1916, aged 28. He is buried at Faubourg D'Amiens Cemetery, Arras, France.
